You All Get to Revolve Around Me!
My seven-year-old was absolutely giddy last night about the lunar eclipse. It was so adorable! She kept reminding us all day that we had to look at the moon between 9:45 p.m. and 10:01 p.m.
"Mommy, can I stay up late tonight, PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEE!"
"How about I wake you up when it's time?"
"Can I sleep on the couch?"
"Deal." Always the negotiator!
While she understood what an eclipse was, she was a little confused about the difference between a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse. Honestly, so was I! So we demonstrated the difference. Feisty Girl was the earth, my hubby was the moon and I was the sun.
"Cool! You all get to revolve around me!"
I soon learned that the sun just stands there when you reenact a lunar eclipse. My hubby and Feisty Girl seemed to be having a lot more fun twirling around and rotating around me. Oh, well. Being the sun sounded good anyway. 
Then we decided we wanted to use a telescope to see the eclipse and to try and see the rings around Saturn. Unfortunately, our telescope broke while we tried to set it up. My ten-year-old then took the eye piece from the broken telescope and used it to look through a magnifying glass. I love how her mind works! She insists she saw Saturn's rings with this makeshift telescope. I couldn't see a damn thing. Then I said "I'm going to call my mom to see if she can see Saturn's rings," because I knew she had high-powered binoculars.
My ten-year-old asks,"Why? Are they closer?"
Then I got out our video camera and zoomed in. It worked pretty well. Not as well as the binoculars my hubby was using though. I didn't even know we had binoculars.
"Where did you get those?"
"From the family room."
"You're using those antique ones I display on the shelf?"
"Yup."
Not so crazy about how his mind works sometimes!

We forgot about the eclipse until after the kids were in bed, but both Ron and I got a good look at it - thankfully we had clear skies for once! :)
I fell asleep and woke up when it was practically over, but I got a few good photos!
"Why, are they closer?" I love her logic!
My little guy was really excited by the eclipse too. Too many trees in our back yard so we found a side street, parked the vehicle and watched. It was a VERY BIG DEAL. How funny.
Is that bad? That the first time my son's ever been "parking" it was with his mom? heehee.
That's so cool that your whole family got involved and learned something new. I fell asleep and My daughter didn't get up either. So I missed it. Darn it!
I wished I had known about it before i put our 5 year old to sleep...he would have loved it too.
For the record, those antique binoculars on display were passed down to me from my Grandmother.
